Blue Sky Objective on Boozeismymomma

A minute ago we turned you on to a cat named Copy and his Mobius Beard, an album inspired by and modeled after the Casio blip soundtrack of the original NES system. Just listening to Copy, we can practically feel the Doritos slime on our fingers and taste the gallons of Mountain Lightning, the Mountain Dew knockoff our mom used to buy from Wal-Mart, that fueled our 14-hour Piston Honda and Soda Popinski ass-whuppin’ days.

Like Copy, Emulsion is down with the 8-bit boogie, even going so far as to title a couple songs with Nintendo vernacular. But this is where Emulsion and Copy diverge. Whereas Mobius Beard hangs its hat on cold sterility and pointy soundscapes, Emulsion’s record inhabits a warmer — though no less pixilated, world — Basically, Blue Sky Objective is some Sega Dreamcast type shit, all shimmery pastel cutscenes rendered in crisp detail. Oh, we’re still craving two liters of pure caffeine to go with Blue Sky Objective, but we’re also going to need a bag of ditch weed and a handjob from Sarah Simonton to complete this particular teenage flashback.
