Ramp Chicago 2007

It’s done! Over the last 14 months we’ve had well over 20 performers spin and perform live at Sonotheque and it’s been a blast. Last night’s Near the Parenthesis set was no exception, with beautiful crisp IDM/ambient production and a great crowd (despite freezing rain). It was also great to see so many Ramp veterans and fellow travelers see us off last night like m50, Kate Simko, Justin McGrath, The Deep Element, Bounte, and DJ LSE.

I’m excited about the switch to a weekly format and I promise we’ll have more info soon.

Studio related news: I’m now the proud owner of a Prophet ‘08. I’m excited about the possibilities of combining the depth and instability of analog with modern sound processing in Ableton Live.

Near the Parenthesis (San Francisco) supports his new album Of Soft Construction on n5md, artfully combining an finely-tuned orchestra of clicks and whirrs with majestic melodies, and Chris Widman DJs a broad spectrum of quality electronic music while residents Emulsion and Liz Revision DJ IDM, ambient electro and glitchy techno throughout the night. Don’t miss guest live visuals from Videojanitor.

PS: This is the last you’ll see of Ramp Chicago in its current form. We’re gearing up for some big changes here. We aren’t going anywhere, and keep a look out for a weekly Ramp in a new venue in the new year!

That Darkroom show…

was a lot of fun. Bounte sums it up nicely on his blog - DJ? Acucrack couldn’t make it but we carried on without them and a good time was had by all.

It was interesting to experiment with using timecode records in a club environment, and problematic thanks to a turntable only outputting the left channel and sometimes throwing Traktor into confusion. It was a good chance to play some extended dub-techno and pop ambient styled sets that went over well with the crowd.
